Meet the Instructor


Aimee Smith and her husband have pursued their family’s education with Classical Conversations since 2011. Aimee currently serves her local community in Alabama as a Challenge IV Director, equips homeschool parents nationwide as a Lead Mentor with the Classical Learning Cohort, and holds an M.A. in Classical Studies: Literature and Rhetoric from Southeastern University with CC Plus. She is also the author of The Restful Homeschool Resolution: 21 Days to Transform Your Homeschool, host of the Rest in the Homeschool Trench podcast, and a speaker for homeschool events. In her spare time, Aimee can be found coordinating one son’s football team, helping another son backstage at the theater, staying connected with her two homeschool graduates, or simply sitting on her front porch watching the birds.

An Introduction to Homer’s Iliad

Description: Are you curious about the value of Homer’s Iliad in today’s modern world? Perhaps you’re a bit intimidated by the ancient epics? Join us for a gentle introduction as we read and discuss The Black Ships Before Troy, a children’s version by Rosemary Sutcliffe. In addition to discussing the plot, characters, and themes, we will compare this epic to Scripture to draw out truth from a Biblical worldview. Come experience a glimpse into the great conversation about this epic that has been ongoing for nearly 3,000 years. 

Requirement: Purchase and read The Black Ships of Troy by Rosemary Sutcliffe.

Description: Should modern day Christians read ancient pagan literature? Can we learn more about ourselves by considering the legendary character of Odysseus? We will consider these questions and more while reading and discussing The Wanderings of Odysseus, Rosemary Sutcliffe’s abridged version of Homer’s Odyssey. Discussions will focus on characters, plot, themes, literary style, and comparison to Scripture. Join the great conversation about this ancient epic and learn how the story of Odysseus continues to speak to our lives today.

I acknowledge the Online Learning Seminar Fees refund policy is as follows: 100% refund if the request is made at least two weeks prior to the start of the seminar; 75% refund if the request is made less than two weeks before the start of the seminar; 50% refund if the request is made within 24 hours after the first meeting of the seminar. No refunds are issued after that time. I understand that I will be if the seminar does not meet the minimum number of registrants to launch. At that time I will be given the opportunity to either move to a different seminar or to receive a refund minus the processing fee assigned by this site.
